Storm Alice is heading to Catalonia this weekend after affecting Valencia and the Balearic Islands. Heavy rainfall will hit the entire coastline, with orange and red weather alerts issued for southern regions.

Clouds will appear on Saturday morning before unleashing rain across the south. Red alerts cover Montsia and Baix Ebre during the afternoon, whilst other Terres de l’Ebre counties face orange warnings for rainfall intensity. Meteocat forecasts torrential precipitation exceeding 40 litres per square metre within 30 minutes.
Rain continues on Sunday, spreading along the coast. Orange alerts remain active until Monday at 2am for Tarragonès, Baix Penedès, Garraf, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès and Maresme. The pre-coastal zone will stay cloudy, though the northern interior enjoys sunny weather during Sunday afternoon.
Flood prevention measures activated
Civil Protection activated the Inuncat plan’s alert phase on Friday afternoon following warnings about rainfall accumulation in the south, especially Baix Ebre and Montsia counties. The alert runs from Saturday 2pm until Sunday 2pm, with accumulations reaching 100 litres per square metre over 24 hours.
From Sunday morning, rain intensity should decrease. However, precipitation will extend throughout the afternoon across southern and central coastal areas. Civil Protection stresses the importance of extreme caution regarding mobility and outdoor activities during intense rain episodes.
Officials urge people to avoid crossing rivers, streams and ravines, and to stay away from flood-prone zones. Basin management authorities (Catalan Water Agency, Ebro Hydrographic Confederation and Xuquer Confederation) have announced intensified monitoring given adverse forecasts and the possibility of sudden surges in torrents and ravines, particularly around the Ebro area.
Anyone with weekend plans along the coast should monitor conditions closely. The storms follow an unusually dry period, making ground less absorbent and increasing flood risks in urban areas with poor drainage.
