More than 277 libraries across Catalunya will participate in Supernit de les Biblioteques, taking place on the night of 14 November and seeking to promote reading and public libraries amongst children. The culture minister, Sònia Hernández, announced this at an event also attended by 3Cat president Rosa Romà and hundreds of librarians.

Hernández highlighted that Supernit has become an essential date for thousands of families, and said it’s an excellent example of the sum of synergies between Catalunya’s strong structures like libraries, 3Cat and the Culture Ministry. She also emphasised librarians’ role and their commitment to making libraries spaces of knowledge and equality, spaces open to everyone without distinctions.
Supernit is organised by 3Cat and the Culture Ministry with collaboration from Barcelona Provincial Council, Girona Provincial Council, the Consortium of Barcelona Libraries and municipal public libraries. The connecting thread will be the programme ‘Ràn dom’, presented by David Its Me and Maria Bouabdellah, with participation from all Super3’s familiar faces.
Children will need to gather energy through various challenges to awaken the fictional character of The Guardian of Stories, protagonist of the audiovisual plot, which can be followed live on Super3. Registrations will open from 13 October at participating libraries, with places limited to each facility’s capacity.
