Parets del Vallès town hall approved the start of work on new regulations for its weekly markets on 25 September. The rules will cover the non-sedentary sales markets at Camp de les Peces and Can Berenguer. PSC, Sumem Esquerres and Parets per la República (Junts) voted in favour, whilst Ara Parets per al Canvi (ERC-AM) abstained.

The future regulations aim to organise market economic activity and guarantee proper operation. They’ll set clear criteria for stall allocation, public space management and compliance with hygiene and safety standards. The goal is to strengthen the town’s economic and social activity.

A study commission made up of the local police chief inspector, municipal facilities technician and municipal contracting technician will draft the regulation proposal. Meanwhile, the council also approved budget amendments to boost funding for local social organisations.

Specifically, they increased Parets Contra el Cáncer’s grant by 4,000 euros and raised CDIAP’s (Early Childhood Development and Care Centre) funding from 4,000 to 12,000 euros. This reinforces their work supporting children and families in the area.

The session also unanimously passed two motions. The first, from PSC and Sumem Esquerres, backs Parets joining the National Language Pact. It commits the council to creating a municipal plan promoting Catalan use in both the administration and across the town.

The second motion, presented by Ara Parets per al Canvi (ERC-AM), condemns attacks on Gaza’s civilian population. It denounces human rights violations and calls on international institutions to take effective measures for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
