Barcelona’s much-loved Phenomena cinema has closed its doors temporarily for a full renovation, but not before offering film fans the chance to own a piece of its history.

The closure followed a weekend of screenings featuring Gladiator, Inglourious Basterds, The Godfather, Weapons and Apocalypse Now. Shortly after, the cinema announced it would sell off its seats and even smaller items such as coat stands and sections of the distinctive carpet, famously inspired by The Shining. Prices for memorabilia range from €50 for furniture to undisclosed sums for larger fittings.
The surprise announcement came just days after the venue was awarded the title of Best Cinema in Europe at the Venice Film Festival. Opened in 2014, Phenomena quickly became a cultural landmark in Barcelona, known for celebrating cult classics and blockbuster films alike.
The refurbishment marks the end of an era but also promises a rebirth. The venue has confirmed it will reopen in 2026 with an entirely new look and facilities designed for modern audiences. Until then, its fans will have to settle for a keepsake of the old Phenomena to tide them over.
