Barcelona is expanding its ‘Jugamos en las plazas’ programme to reclaim busy tourist areas for residents, with free children’s play sessions running until February 2026. Backed by a budget of €72,500, the initiative covers the gardens of the Sagrada Família, Plaça Reial and Jardins Voltes d’en Cirés, which together will host 61 sessions.

City Hall says the project is part of its strategy for Espacios de Gran Afluencia, or areas with high visitor numbers. By staging inclusive, family friendly activities, officials aim to restore a neighbourhood character to public spaces that have become dominated by tourism. The activities are designed to use public squares as educational settings and to encourage children and young people to develop through play.
