Barcelona police have ruled out criminal activity in a butane cylinder explosion that injured 11 people in a Poblenou residential building last Tuesday.

Emergency Response and Injuries

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, 13 May, left one person seriously injured. Another individual sustained less serious injuries. Both were transported to Vall d'Hebron Hospital in the Catalan capital. Nine other people suffered minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) deployed nine ambulances to the scene. Firefighters, known as Bombers, evacuated the building. They then extinguished the blaze and ensured the area's safety.

Police Rule Out Criminal Activity

The Mossos d'Esquadra's Central Ocular Inspection Unit (UCIO) conducted initial checks immediately after the accident. Their preliminary analysis found no evidence linking the explosion to criminal activity. This information comes from a police statement.

Investigators concluded that the explosion was not provoked. This finding dismisses any connection to criminal acts.
