Two individuals were arrested by Barcelona’s Guardia Urbana in the early hours of Sunday, 12th April, for selling a variety of drugs inside a nightclub in the Poblenou neighbourhood of the Sant Martí district. Security personnel caught them in the act, leading to the seizure of 47 monodose bags of various substances and 300 euros in small denominations.

Nightclub Security Intervenes

The arrests occurred after alert nightclub security staff observed the two individuals completing a drug transaction. They immediately detained the suspects, preventing further sales, and promptly contacted the Guardia Urbana. Police officers arrived swiftly to take the individuals into custody.

Upon searching the suspects, officers discovered a significant cache of illicit substances. The seized drugs included 47 monodose bags containing cocaine, ketamine, ecstasy, crystal, and 2C-I. Additionally, two bottles of popper were found in their possession.

Evidence of Drug Trafficking

The Guardia Urbana also confiscated 300 euros in small denomination bills from the arrested individuals. This cash strongly indicated that previous sales had already taken place within the establishment before security intervened. The police have charged both suspects with a crime against public health, specifically drug trafficking.

The individuals will now appear before a judge to face these serious charges. El Caso (El Nacional) reported that the Guardia Urbana has not released further details regarding the suspects’ ages, nationalities, or any prior criminal records.

Combating Drug Sales in Barcelona

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities and private security to combat drug sales in public entertainment venues across Barcelona. The Poblenou neighbourhood, part of the Sant Martí district, is a dynamic area known for its vibrant nightlife, attracting numerous residents and tourists. Ensuring safety in these popular spaces remains a priority for the city.

Barcelona’s city council and law enforcement agencies regularly conduct operations aimed at disrupting drug networks, particularly those operating in areas frequented by the public. Such arrests serve as a deterrent to others considering similar illegal activities.

Authorities continue to monitor establishments like nightclubs to ensure public safety and deter illegal activities. The legal process for the two arrested individuals will now proceed through the judicial system, with further details expected as the case develops.
