According to La Vanguardia, Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a man accused of systematically looting 60 storage units across three Barcelona municipalities.

The investigation began in September following numerous complaints from residents in Sant Joan Despí, Cornellà de Llobregat and Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

Victims reported valuable items stolen from their storage spaces, including bicycles, electric scooters, small appliances and tools. Consequently, police launched a dedicated operation to track down the perpetrator.

Barcelona Storage Unit Investigation Details

Police described the suspect as “very active” and always working alone. He typically operated at night, forcing access to residential communities before systematically looting individual storage units. Furthermore, the man had no fixed address and multiple previous convictions for similar offences.

The arrest occurred last Tuesday during a nighttime operation near a residential community. Officers caught the suspect with various tools specifically designed for forcing entry into buildings. This development comes as crime patterns shift across the Barcelona metropolitan area, with some areas experiencing increases in property offences.

Meanwhile, the scale of the operation surprised even experienced officers. Sixty separate storage unit burglaries represent one of the most extensive cases of its kind in recent Barcelona history. Additionally, the suspect’s methodical approach and consistent targeting of residential communities demonstrated considerable planning.

Local residents had grown increasingly concerned about the repeated break-ins. Many had invested in additional security measures for their storage areas, while others removed valuable items entirely. The arrest therefore brings significant relief to affected communities across the three municipalities.

Police are now working to recover stolen property and identify all victims. They encourage anyone who may have been affected by similar incidents to come forward. This Barcelona storage unit case highlights ongoing challenges in securing communal residential spaces against determined criminals.
