According to the original report, Salvador Illa, president of the Generalitat, was at the airport to say farewell and thanked the Pope for his visit, his messages over the past two days and what he called his sensitivity to the Catalan reality. Jaume Collboni, mayor of Barcelona, was also present, along with Cardinal Archbishop Juan José Omella, Bishop Xabier Gómez of Sant Feliu de Llobregat and Eva Valenzuela, director of Barcelona Airport.
The Barcelona programme included the Sagrada Família, Barcelona Cathedral in the Gothic Quarter, a vigil for 40,000 people at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Montjuïc, and a stop at Sant Agustí Parish in the Raval to meet social entities. He also visited Montserrat Abbey and the Brians I penitentiary centre in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, near the Llobregat river, according to the original report.
