The Port of Barcelona will open its doors to the public on 30 and 31 May, offering 5,000 free tickets to explore restricted areas and visit the historic Llobregat Lighthouse for the first time. Visitors can also witness an unprecedented "dance of boats" maritime spectacle. This initiative provides a rare opportunity for residents and tourists to discover parts of Barcelona's coastline usually hidden from view.

Bookings and Lighthouse History

Bookings for the free tickets will start on 19 May at 12:00. People can reserve their spot via the official Port of Barcelona website. A symbolic €1 contribution is required, which will go to either the Fundación CRAM or Stella Maris Barcelona. The Far del Llobregat, a hidden gem at the port's edge near the Llobregat river mouth, has guided vessels for over 170 years. It started operating in January 1852 and remains active today. Its unique cylindrical building, topped by a quadrangular tower and a glass dome, serves as a reference for both sea and air navigation. This historic lighthouse, usually closed to the public, will welcome visitors for the first time during these open days.

Itineraries and Maritime Show

The Port of Barcelona organises three land itineraries. Visits to the Llobregat Lighthouse form part of these guided tours. Attendees will use buses to access restricted commercial port areas. They can observe logistical activity up close before reaching the lighthouse. Additionally, maritime tours aboard Las Golondrinas will be available. A unique "dance of boats" show is scheduled for Saturday, 30 May at 12:00. This exhibition will take place at the Barcelona Est pier, next to the World Trade Center. Tugboats, pilot boats, and mooring boats will coordinate movements to music. They will perform water salutes, creating a dynamic display for spectators.

Port Vell Activities and Community Engagement

Beyond the guided tours and maritime show, Port Vell will host a wide range of activities throughout the weekend. The Moll d’Espanya will feature gastronomic proposals from various Barcelona neighbourhoods. Live music and performances will accompany these culinary offerings. The Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica will organise free 30-minute sailing trips around the port. Catalan rumba concerts will entertain visitors at the Moll de la Barceloneta. Family workshops and activities are also planned. The Festival Pelut will offer exhibitions, videos, and playful proposals related to pets. A large artistic carpet, made from flowers and sawdust, will also be on display. This carpet draws inspiration from the official event poster.

On Sunday, the KM Contra el Càncer charity race will take place. This event will traverse various roads within the port area. All proceeds from the race will go towards cancer research and supporting oncology patients. These open days highlight the Port of Barcelona's commitment to community engagement. They offer residents and visitors a chance to connect with the city's maritime heritage. The initiative also supports important social causes through the symbolic booking fee and charity race.
