The Port of Barcelona 2025 results reveal a turnover of €206 million, marking a 3% annual increase. This consolidates the port’s financial standing, with revenues exceeding €200 million for the second consecutive year. Officials announced the figures on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the port maintained strong revenue streams and accelerated its investment momentum. It tendered 100% of its planned major projects for the year. Therefore, the results highlight a strategic shift towards infrastructure modernisation and capacity expansion. This expansion serves the European agri-food and logistics sectors.

Port of Barcelona 2025 Results: Financial Stability
The growth in turnover was driven primarily by concession fees, which contributed €96 million. Usage fees linked to port activity added another €97 million. However, the operating result stood at €47 million, a 6% decrease compared to 2024. Port authorities attributed this dip to a calculated financial operation regarding the new Barcelona International Terminal (BIT).
The Port Authority assumed €10 million of a €30 million investment required to relocate the coffee terminal. This move facilitates the expansion of the Elian vegetable protein plant. It is part of a broader €200 million industrial project that positions Barcelona as a critical hub for the European food industry. Without this extraordinary expenditure, the operating result would have reached €57 million, representing a 14% rise.
“We practically have no debt,” stated Míriam Alaminos, Deputy General Director of Finance. She highlighted the port’s healthy cash flow of €114 million and a treasury balance of €365 million.
In addition, the port reaffirmed its role as the primary contributor to the state port system. It provided €14.6 million in 2025, which is 45% more than the second-largest contributor.
Port of Barcelona 2025 Results: Infrastructure Investment
2025 was a pivotal year for development, with the port tendering projects worth €332.5 million. Looking ahead to 2026, the pace is set to increase. President José Alberto Carbonell announced that nine major projects totalling €338.7 million will commence this year.
Key scheduled works include:
- Port Infrastructure: The second phase of the Catalunya wharf construction and remodelling of the Moll de Ponent Nord.
- Road Accessibility: Improving access to the Moll Adossat and the new Cruise Terminal G.
- Rail Intermodality: Enhancing rail access in the Nou Llobregat area to boost cargo efficiency.
- City Integration: Construction of the Port Centre at the Portal de la Pau building.
Port of Barcelona 2025 Results: Traffic Trends
In terms of goods, the port moved 69.5 million tonnes in 2025, remaining stable compared to the previous year. While total container traffic dipped by 4.2% to 3.7 million TEUs, the quality of that traffic improved. Full import and export containers, which offer higher added value, grew by 4% and 3% respectively. Imports hit an all-time record.
Liquid Bulk and Vehicles
Liquid bulk traffic surged by 21.7% to a record 16.6 million tonnes. This was driven by gasoline transits and LNG imports. Conversely, solid bulk dropped by 15%, largely due to a decrease in soybean arrivals. A historic low in cement traffic, caused by international competition, also contributed.
Vehicle traffic remained robust, with 716,657 units moved, a 5.1% increase. Notably, the transition to green mobility is evident on the docks. Electric vehicles now account for nearly 12% of all new vehicles passing through the port. This registered a massive 75.7% increase year-on-year.
Passenger Recovery and Strategy
Passenger numbers climbed to 5.78 million, a 7.3% increase. The cruise sector continues to evolve towards a ‘homeport’ model. Passengers begin and end their journey in Barcelona, generating higher economic value for the city. Currently, 58% of cruise movements are homeport passengers, a figure that continues to rise.
Despite geopolitical uncertainties, including potential tariff changes from the US, port leadership remains optimistic. Recent trade agreements with India and Mercosur are expected to bolster competitiveness in 2026. This ensures the Port of Barcelona remains a central node in Mediterranean logistics. This is especially relevant as Catalan exports to India have been on the rise.
