Port Olímpic Christmas mapping has officially launched the festive season in Barcelona with a spectacular new light show.

The city’s mayor, Jaume Collboni, inaugurated the artistic projection on the façade of the Sala Gregal this Thursday, marking the start of the waterfront’s holiday programming.

The free 15-minute show, titled ‘Barcelona, vela i paper’, is the work of illustrator Andrea Segura López.

Port Olímpic Christmas Mapping Blends Art and Gastronomy

This new installation represents a significant cultural addition to the district’s festive calendar. The mapping transforms the architectural surface into a dynamic canvas of light and narrative, visible from the popular Gastronomic Balcony. Consequently, visitors can enjoy both visual art and the area’s renowned culinary offerings in one visit.

The seven restaurants on the balcony have introduced special seasonal menus for the occasion. Furthermore, the broader programme includes street performances, games, music, a Christmas market, and children’s workshops. The festivities will culminate on January 5th with the arrival of the Three Kings by sailboat.

According to recent cultural reports, Barcelona continues to invest in public-facing art and events that enhance community spaces. This Port Olímpic Christmas mapping project aligns with that strategy, creating a new winter attraction by the sea.

The initiative, as reported by El Periódico, was attended by key city figures including First Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet. They emphasised the value of providing free, inclusive holiday plans for all ages across the city’s neighbourhoods.

This Port Olímpic Christmas mapping therefore represents more than just a light display. It is a coordinated effort to revitalise a signature public space and offer diverse cultural experiences during the holiday period. The project successfully merges artistic innovation with traditional festive celebrations.
