Barcelona’s Partido Popular has asked mayor Jaume Collboni to order the clearance of Can Vies in Sants, ten years after the unrest linked to the site.
The party says the former railway depot, which has been occupied for years, should be emptied and later turned into a civic space. It has also called for the building to be used for neighbourhood services once the site is cleared.
Can Vies became a flashpoint in 2014, when attempts to evict it led to several nights of unrest in Barcelona. The PP is now pressing the city government to act again, arguing that the situation should be resolved.
The request puts fresh pressure on Collboni’s administration over a long-running local dispute in Sants. For more Barcelona politics coverage, see our Community page.
