Pyrenees ski resorts operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) have reported a strong start to the winter season.

The six mountain stations, grouped under the Pirineu365 brand, welcomed approximately 25,000 visitors during the recent December holiday weekend, according to official figures.

This significant influx demonstrates robust demand for winter sports getaways from Barcelona and beyond.

The stations collectively offered more than 60 kilometres of skiable terrain, with snow depths reaching up to 50 centimetres of powder in places.

Strong Start for Pyrenees Ski Resorts

Enric Serra, Director of Business and Strategy for FGC Turisme, stated that the stations are preparing for what is forecast to be a “very good” Christmas period. The successful weekend provides positive momentum for the regional tourism sector as it heads into the peak winter holidays.

La Molina was the most popular destination, attracting nearly 8,000 visitors. It was followed by Vall de Núria, Boí Taüll, and Port Ainé, each with around 4,000 guests. Meanwhile, Espot recorded 2,500 visitors and Vallter welcomed 2,000.

Furthermore, the resorts had 64 ski slopes open to the public. Additionally, they offered comprehensive leisure facilities including snowparks, sledging areas, and dedicated children’s zones. The culinary offering was also substantial, with 34 different restaurant and catering points operating across the six locations.

The strong visitor numbers follow a broader trend of successful public investment in Catalonia. For instance, Barcelona has recently demonstrated efficient use of major EU funding streams for transformative projects. This effective management of resources often supports regional infrastructure and tourism development.
