Barcelona’s iconic Rambla has entered its third year of comprehensive renovation works, with significant progress now visible across the historic boulevard. The transformation began in October 2022 with an initial completion target of 2030, but revised planning has accelerated the timeline substantially. According to city officials, the entire project should now conclude by spring 2027.

Completed Sections
The lowest section between Portal de la Pau and Santa Madrona has been finished. This 200-metre stretch represents the original cross-sectional approach to the works.

Additionally, the Gothic Quarter sidewalk was completed in June 2025. This provides the first clear indication of the final design vision. The city council said this segment shows the project’s direction.
Meanwhile, similar transport infrastructure improvements continue across Barcelona.
Current Works and Timeline
The Raval sidewalk now undergoes archaeological interventions and construction. Some sections already display their final profile despite ongoing work.

This phase should finish by spring 2026 according to project managers. Traffic modifications remain in place with descending circulation prohibited.
The iconic central walkway represents the final major challenge. Its distinctive wave-pattern pavement will be replaced despite some public opposition.
However, officials note the current surface shows significant deterioration. The central section works will begin after Raval sidewalk completion.
They should last approximately one year if no complications arise. The renovation aligns with other urban improvement initiatives in central districts.
The entire Rambla renovation project now targets completion within the current municipal term. Final works should conclude by spring 2027 barring unexpected delays.
