Barcelona rail passengers face disruption on Monday 29 June, as Renfe cancels 320 trains during a 24-hour strike called by Sindicato Ferroviario. The action comes at the start of the summer travel period, so commuters and holiday travellers should check before leaving home.

According to Renfe and Spain's Ministry of Transport, 98 Alta Velocidad and Larga Distancia trains will be cancelled out of 360 scheduled services, while 222 Media Distancia trains will be cancelled out of 642 planned. Cercanías and Rodalies services will continue under minimum service rules rather than stopping completely.

In Catalunya, the regional government sets the minimum Rodalies service because rail powers are transferred there. Renfe and the ministry have both published their operating notices, and passengers can check official updates before travelling. For more local rail coverage, see our Community page.

The strike on Monday is the first of two announced by the union. A second strike day is scheduled for 15 July.

Here is the service picture for Monday 29 June: Alta Velocidad and Larga Distancia, 262 of 360 trains will run, or 73% of normal service. Media Distancia, 420 of 642 trains will run, or 65% of normal service. Cercanías in Madrid, Asturias, Cantabria, Galicia, Castilla y León, Sevilla, Cádiz, Málaga, Valencia, Murcia and Zaragoza, 75% service at peak times and 50% for the rest of the day.

Renfe said passengers whose train is cancelled can travel on another service at the nearest possible time, if seats are available. They can also change the date of the ticket or cancel it without extra cost. If you are travelling from Barcelona on Monday, check Renfe's official channels before heading to the station.
