Police have arrested a 35-year-old man, described as a prolific repeat offender, in connection with at least 14 high-value burglaries across Barcelona province. These netted over €200,000 in jewellery alone. Officers caught the suspect in the act during a break-in in Terrassa on March 4, 2026, ending a five-month crime spree targeting affluent homes in the city and surrounding towns.

In a statement released to the media, the Mossos d’Esquadra, the Catalan regional police force, confirmed the arrest culminated an extensive investigation led by its Rubí Investigation Unit. The man, with a history of similar offences, is accused of carrying out a meticulously planned series of forceful robberies, primarily targeting jewellery, high-value items, and cash.
The Sarrià-Sant Gervasi Heists
Investigators linked the man to seven burglaries in Barcelona’s upscale Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district between October 2025 and February 2026. These lucrative robberies saw over €200,000 worth of jewellery stolen from these homes. He also stole branded clothing worth €28,000 and more than €8,000 in cash.
The concentration of offences in one area, coupled with the suspect’s existing criminal record, highlights an ongoing issue for regional law enforcement. Recidivism has become a significant concern, prompting city police to explore new strategies, as detailed in Barna.News’s report on how the Barcelona police launched a unit to tackle repeat crime.
A Wider Provincial Spree
Investigators also tied the suspect to seven further robberies committed across the Vallès Occidental and Baix Llobregat comarques between November and December 2025. These break-ins occurred in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Terrassa, and Castelldefels.
Although less valuable than the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi thefts, the haul from these suburban homes remained significant, totalling over €9,000 in jewellery and other valuables, plus more than €500 in cash, according to El Periódico.
An Elusive Modus Operandi
The burglar consistently employed a refined method for his crimes. He targeted homes during daylight hours when he determined residents were out, gaining access either by scaling building facades with considerable agility or by forcing doors and windows.
A key factor complicating the police investigation was the suspect’s deliberate avoidance of private vehicles. To evade tracking and blend in, he exclusively used public transport to travel to and from crime scenes. Police noted this tactic made him particularly elusive. Investigators ultimately identified him by analysing security camera footage showing consistent attire across several crime scenes.
Officers apprehended the suspect “in fraganti” during another attempted robbery in Terrassa, halting his career. After his arrest, he appeared before the instructing court of Terrassa on March 7, 2026, to face charges for the string of burglaries.
