Roca brothers’ Normal restaurant fire has damaged the kitchen of their Girona establishment during the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 00:16 at the restaurant located in Plaça de l’Oli, according to fire service reports.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among staff or residents.

Roca Brothers’ Normal Restaurant Fire Investigation Underway

Firefighters from the Generalitat confirmed the blaze affected the extractor hood, chimney and surrounding materials within the kitchen area. Furthermore, the restaurant’s sommelier Josep Roca took to social media platform X to reassure concerned followers. He stated that nobody was harmed and the damage wasn’t “anything serious that cannot be repaired.”

The restaurant was closed at the time of the incident, as Thursday is the establishment’s weekly rest day. Consequently, investigators believe the most likely cause was an electrical short circuit. Meanwhile, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure but were able to return once the fire was extinguished.

This marks the second fire incident affecting the Roca brothers’ properties in recent weeks. Additionally, their Mas Marroch event space in Vilablareix suffered a fire earlier this month. That previous blaze damaged approximately one-third of the banquet hall and affected storage areas and kitchen facilities.

The Roca brothers, renowned for their three-Michelin-starred restaurant El Celler de Can Roca, have expressed gratitude that both incidents resulted in no physical injuries. However, these consecutive fires have raised questions about safety protocols across their hospitality portfolio. The restaurant group continues to cooperate fully with authorities investigating both incidents.

Normal restaurant represents one of the more accessible dining options within the Roca brothers’ culinary empire. Therefore, this temporary disruption may affect local diners seeking their distinctive Catalan cuisine. The establishment’s management has yet to announce reopening plans while damage assessments continue.
