Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya have agreed to expand the deployment of information officers across the city’s rail network. This action responds directly to the systemic Rodalies rail crisis, which has now entered its third week.

Thousands of commuters face daily disruptions. Consequently, local authorities are increasing the number of support staff on the ground. The contingent has risen from 20 to 24 officers, who will now cover ten key stations across the city, up from the previous eight.

Rodalies Rail Crisis: Support Focused on Peak Travel Times

The primary role of these teams is to assist passengers affected by cancellations and delays. They help commuters navigate alternative transport routes until normal service is restored. The officers are deployed during the busiest travel windows: between 06:00 and 10:00, and again from 16:00 to 20:00.

Personnel will now be stationed at the following major hubs:

  • Sants
  • Plaça de Catalunya
  • Passeig de Gràcia
  • Arc de Triomf
  • Estació de França
  • El Clot
  • La Sagrera
  • Meridiana
  • Torre Baró
  • Sant Andreu
  • Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni has taken a firm stance on the deteriorating service. He described the current context as “unacceptable”. Collboni confirmed that the City Council will maintain all extraordinary measures currently in place.
  • Collboni emphasised that these ground-level actions are exceptional. However, they have become necessary to manage the fallout from the disruption.
  • In addition to the information officers, the Guàrdia Urbana (local police) will continue to operate an itinerant service. They maintain fixed patrols at main stations and points of interest. Authorities are paying particular attention to intercity bus stops, such as the station at Fabra i Puig and stops along the Diagonal. Passenger volumes have swelled there due to displaced rail commuters.
  • Furthermore, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is maintaining reinforcements on bus lines 62 and 96. These routes cover the critical Meridiana corridor. They provide essential connections to Ciutat Meridiana and Montcada respectively, amid ongoing emergency works and service disruptions.
