Rubí’s second FGC station has received official approval from the Catalan government, marking a significant step for public transport in the Vallès Occidental region.

The new stop on the S1 line will be built in the La Llana economic activity zone, according to a feasibility study commissioned by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC).

The municipality is considered a strategic point on the railway axis connecting Barcelona with the Vallès Occidental. Consequently, the project forms part of a broader plan to enhance Catalonia’s railway mobility.

The project, however, comes with a crucial condition. Construction will not begin until the prior urban development of the surrounding area, as outlined in the new Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM), is carried out. This conclusion was reached jointly by the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition and FGC.

Secretary of Mobility and Infrastructure, Manel Nadal Farreras, emphasised that the future station’s utility and profitability are directly linked to the zone’s urban development. The La Llana location was selected over the alternative Rubí Nord site after being deemed to have superior viability. Once the urban planning materialises, the necessary preliminary studies will be launched before works commence.

The findings were presented at a meeting in the Department of Territory, where officials informed the municipal delegation led by Rubí’s mayor, Ana María Martínez Martínez. The initiative is oriented towards reinforcing public transport access in Vallès municipalities and consolidating the connection with Barcelona. Furthermore, it advances efforts towards a more efficient and sustainable network, a goal reflected in other local infrastructure projects like the ongoing developments at Sagrera station.
