Catalonia’s Rural Agents have unveiled a new initiative designed to connect vulnerable communities with the benefits of nature.

The programme, called ApropaNatura, was presented on Friday as part of the wider environmental education scheme EduCAR. Its aim is to ensure that people who often face barriers to outdoor access can still experience and engage with natural spaces.
Núria Parlon, Minister of Interior and Public Safety, praised the body’s dual role in environmental protection and public engagement. ‘One of the Rural Agents’ greatest strengths is their ability to connect with citizens, especially children and schools,’ she said. The department has now included this work among its core objectives, highlighting the importance of addressing risks while fostering awareness of the environment.
The project builds on the Rural Agents’ long-standing commitment to conservation, broadening its scope to embrace social inclusion by making nature accessible to all sectors of society.
