The city of Sabadell has announced the auction of four municipally owned plots worth a combined €4.3 million, with the proceeds earmarked for financing public housing projects already under way. The parcels, situated in Can Gambús, the Eix Macià and the city centre, are expected to attract developers interested in building around 90 homes, ranging from multifamily blocks to single-family units.

The initiative comes through Vimusa, the municipal housing company, which is seeking to turn land assets into liquidity at a time when demand for affordable housing in the Vallès Occidental region remains high. According to councillor for housing Eloi Cortés, the sites cannot be dedicated to protected housing because they were acquired through reparcelling processes and, in some cases, require that all homes be built simultaneously.
Despite this, Cortés argued that the sale will strengthen the city’s broader strategy of expanding its stock of affordable rentals. Vimusa already has 425 units in development across projects such as Can Gambús and the Roureda complex, which together represent one of the most ambitious municipal housing pushes in recent years.
The auction is structured into lots, with each parcel awarded to the bidder presenting the strongest economic offer. The largest lot, in the Eix Macià, could accommodate up to 48 flats, starting at a base price of €1.84 million. Meanwhile, land in Can Gambús is split between a plot suited for 25 apartments, valued at just under €1 million, and two adjoining parcels designated for 16 single-family homes, priced together at €1.34 million. A smaller site in the city centre has an initial value of €188,000.
Developers have until 17 October to present bids, after which the city hopes to finalise sales and redirect the funds into affordable rental schemes. City officials stress that, while the parcels themselves will host private housing, the money they generate is critical to ensuring more residents can access stable, affordable homes in Sabadell.
