The iconic basilica generated €135.5 million in income, with 51% allocated directly to its ongoing construction. This exceptional year coincides with the centenary commemoration of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death.
Esteve Camps, President Delegate of the Sagrada Família Construction Board, explained, “This natural evolution is consistent with the Sagrada Família’s construction phase and the historic moment of commemorating the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death.”
Construction Milestones Achieved
The year 2026 will see the final piece of the Jesus Tower installed, completing the temple’s verticality. Upon its culmination, the Sagrada Família will reach its maximum height of 172.5 metres, becoming the world’s tallest church. This surpasses Ulm Minster in Germany.
Over the past 15 years, the construction of Gaudí’s temple has seen significant progress. This includes the completion of the four Evangelist towers and the Virgin Mary tower. Additionally, February saw the exterior finalisation of the Jesus Christ tower.
International Visitor Demographics
Chinese tourists now represent 7.20% of all visitors, a substantial increase from the previous year. However, United States nationals remain the largest group, accounting for 15.07% of total visitors.
Other significant visitor nationalities include Italian (6.92%), French (6.91%), South Korean (4.93%), British (4.52%), and German (4.10%). Spanish visitors constitute 10.82% of the total, while other European visitors make up 15.67%. The remaining 23.86% come from other parts of the world.
Ongoing Construction and Future Plans
Work continues on the Chapel of the Assumption, which has reached 8 metres of its planned 30-metre height. Restoration efforts are also underway on the Maties tower.
Mr Camps also announced a change to the Sagrada Família’s logo. He stated the update aims “to update the visual identity to reflect its current reality with coherence.”
