Unlike traditional city road races, the Salomon Run offers a course winding through the historic and scenic landscape of Montjuïc park. The main event features a demanding 10-kilometre circuit. However, organisers also provide a 5-kilometre option, a special family run, and a thrilling, free-to-enter vertical sprint, ensuring the event appeals to a wide range of athletic abilities.
Race Route and Schedule
The main races commence at 9:00 AM from the Plaça de Puig i Cadafalch, directly in front of the spectacular Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. From this point, the course leads runners past some of Barcelona’s most famous cultural landmarks.
Participants in the 10km race tackle approximately 299 metres of elevation gain, navigating a path that includes asphalt roads, dirt tracks, and numerous flights of stairs. The route passes alongside the majestic Palau Nacional, home to the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC). It also weaves through Poble Espanyol’s architectural showcase and circles parts of the Anella Olímpica (Olympic Ring), a legacy of the 1992 Games. The 5km course offers a shorter loop with a more manageable 114 metres of elevation.
Both races conclude back at the Plaça de Puig i Cadafalch, allowing for a grandstand finish with the impressive backdrop of the museum and fountains.
Registration and Practical Information
Aspiring participants must register online before the deadline at 11:59 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The registration fees are as follows:
- 10 km Race: €18

- Family 5 km: €13 per individual (for groups up to 8)
Participants can collect race bibs from the starting area at Plaça de Puig i Cadafalch on Friday, April 10, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For last-minute collections, bibs will also be available on race day, Saturday, April 11, between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM.
The Vertical Race and Family Fun
The Salomon Vertical Race offers a unique highlight: an explosive test of speed and power. As local outlet betevé details, this free event welcomes 32 men and 32 women, selected by lottery. Competitors race in heats of four, sprinting up 54 steps in a knockout format until a champion is crowned. While registration for the Vertical Race is free, signing up for the lottery draw is required.
Moreover, the event promotes family participation with its 5km Family Run. This allows groups of up to eight runners to tackle the shorter course together, making it an accessible and memorable day out for all ages.
The event provides both a physical challenge and a chance to experience Montjuïc, a cherished and complex part of Barcelona. Improved accessibility, following the cable car’s annual maintenance, makes the park a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. While the race brings a festive atmosphere, it also highlights the park as a vital public space. This area has been central to community discussions on safety, particularly after recent concerns raised by residents in neighbouring Poble Sec. Supported by both the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Salomon Run celebrates the hill’s potential for safely hosting major sporting and cultural events.
