The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 20-year-old man in Barcelona following a fatal domestic incident in the Sant Andreu neighbourhood. The suspect is accused of killing his stepfather with a knife inside the family home. This Sant Andreu stabbing occurred on Tuesday evening.

Self-reported attack

The incident occurred at about 8:00 pm. The 112 emergency service received a call from the suspect himself. According to judicial sources, the young man said he had attacked his mother’s partner with a knife at their shared home.

Patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra and ambulances from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) immediately went to the scene. Medical staff performed CPR on the victim, who was in a critical state. They then took him to a hospital.

Fatal outcome

Despite the efforts of emergency teams, the victim died from his injuries on Wednesday. The severity of the knife wounds proved fatal. This raised the case to a homicide investigation.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after they arrived at the flat on Tuesday. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Mossos d’Esquadra has taken charge of the inquiry.

Investigation underway

Early evidence suggests the Sant Andreu stabbing resulted from an argument between the two men that turned violent. Agents from the Scientific Police have examined the property for forensic evidence. Investigators have also started talking to those close to the family to understand the context of the dispute.
