Increased Funding for Cultural Initiatives
The application period will open for 15 days following its publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) and the municipal electronic notice board. Officials anticipate this publication will occur shortly after the Easter holidays. Cultural Councillor Núria Escamilla emphasised the council’s commitment to the city’s artistic community. She stated, “Our objective is to facilitate the excellent work carried out by these entities, which are essential for making Sant Cugat a culturally active, rich, and diverse city.” This substantial increase in the cultural budget underscores the City Council’s dedication to fostering local talent and events.
Informational Meeting and Application Details
The City Council will host an informational meeting for all cultural groups on Wednesday, 8 April at 18:00. This session at the Casa de Cultura will provide detailed information about the 2026 grant call. The €458,900 budget allocates 63.6% to direct subsidies for entities, including some 2025 agreements. A total of €113,700, or 24.7% of the budget, goes to the 2026 public competition call. The remaining public competition funds from 2025 and other arrears account for €29,200, or 6.3%. Additionally, €24,000, representing 5.2%, is designated for non-competitive public competition. This portion specifically supports the promotion of museums and private collections for both 2025 and 2026.
Streamlined Process for Local Entities
This marks the first time in eight years that the grant call has received approval during the first quarter. The City Council highlighted this earlier approval helps entities manage projects better and plan with more time. The increased budget and improved calendar follow new provisions introduced in the Strategic Subsidies Plan (PES). Since 2025, the PES has expanded competitive public competition grants, ending the previous system of direct, nominative subsidies. These changes aim to create a more transparent and equitable funding process for cultural organisations across Sant Cugat del Vallès, a vibrant town in the Barcelona metropolitan area.
What Happens Next
The City Council expects the early approval and increased funding to significantly benefit Sant Cugat’s vibrant cultural sector. Local organisations should monitor the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona for the exact application start date. This proactive approach ensures cultural initiatives receive timely support, strengthening the city’s artistic landscape for residents and visitors alike.
