Sant Martí district fires have led police to uncover two major indoor marijuana farms and arrest three people.
The blazes, which occurred in consecutive days, were caused by dangerous electrical overloads from fraudulent connections to the power grid.

Consequently, officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra’s Public Health Research Unit seized nearly 2,000 plants and dismantled the illegal operations.
Sant Martí Police Operation Follows Consecutive Blazes
The first fire broke out around 10:30 am on 30 November on Zamora Street. Firefighters, local police, and several Mossos patrols attended the scene to extinguish the flames. Furthermore, upon entering the property, investigators discovered 1,200 marijuana plants in various flowering stages. They also found 60 lighting panels, air conditioning units, and numerous fans.
Police arrested the alleged manager of that plantation the same day. The suspect had no prior criminal record. Authorities subsequently confiscated the drugs, which had an estimated black market value of €127,000.
Second Fire Reveals Another Sant Martí Cultivation Site
Meanwhile, a second fire was reported the following evening, 1 December, around 10:00 pm on Auger Street, also within the Sant Martí district. Local police officers activated the response. Mossos d’Esquadra Citizen Security agents detained two individuals as they attempted to flee the property.
Inside, officers found another 700 marijuana plants alongside equipment typical of such indoor farms. The back-to-back incidents highlight ongoing challenges with illegal cultivation in urban areas, a topic also explored in our coverage of local community and enforcement issues.
Technicians from the energy company Endesa assisted police in safely dismantling the fraudulent electrical installations at both properties. They calculated the stolen electricity amounted to a staggering 452,936 kWh. This volume of defrauded energy is equivalent to the annual consumption of 130 average homes.
The investigation remains ongoing. The three detainees, aged between 25 and 49, are presumed responsible for the plantations. This police action follows a pattern of targeting operations that compromise public safety, similar to recent enforcement efforts at major transport hubs.
According to the official report from Europa Press, the Mossos emphasised the significant fire risk posed by such illegal electrical hook-ups. The Sant Martí district operations have successfully removed a substantial drug production operation from the city.
