Santa Coloma de Gramenet will embark on an ambitious €10.8 million urban renewal initiative. The city is unveiling a package of six major projects to revitalise key neighbourhoods and public spaces. The city council actively engages with residents to finalise these plans, aiming to enhance mobility, green spaces, and community facilities across the municipality.

This comprehensive investment targets several of the city’s most densely populated areas, including the Llatí, Centre, Riu Nord, Raval, and Santa Rosa neighbourhoods. This urban improvement push forms part of a wider strategy to modernise Santa Coloma’s infrastructure and public amenities. Additionally, it includes ambitious long-term projects like the development of a new metropolitan thermal spa accessible by metro.
Avenida Generalitat and Raval at the Forefront
The second phase of the Avenida de la Generalitat redevelopment is among the most anticipated works. With a budget of €2.2 million, this project will focus on the section between Carrer Sant Jordi and Carrer Pau Claris, alongside the area surrounding the new police station. According to a report by Metrópoli Abierta, municipal sources confirm work will begin this April, regenerating 5,688 square metres of land.
These plans prioritise accessibility and mobility, enhancing street lighting and introducing more vegetation. A significant feature will be a new children’s play area and pergola, constructed in a disused space near the CER Raval. This will create much-needed shade and recreational space. This phase also includes renovating the nearby Plaça de Les Cultures and constructing a new Civic Centre for the Raval neighbourhood, relocating it from its current home on Carrer Monturiol.
Long-Term Vision for Llatí and Fondo
The initiative also lays out a long-term vision for other critical areas. For instance, the council plans an “integral intervention” for the Llatí neighbourhood, a high-traffic area bordering Badalona. This €1.7 million project will focus on Carrer Perú – specifically the stretch between Carrer Alella and Carrer Milán – and the local square. These works, which include widening pavements, are tentatively scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
The bustling Centre and Fondo neighbourhoods, both key mobility hubs with stops on Metro Line 1, will also receive significant upgrades. In Centre, a €1.3 million investment will overhaul Carrer Sant Carles between Carrer Cultura and Carrer Pompeu Fabra. Meanwhile, in Fondo, the Pasadís Beethoven will undergo a complete modification costing €1.2 million, including a traffic direction change. Both projects, expected to start late next year, will incorporate improved lighting and new trees.
Citizen Engagement and Future Plans
Direct communication with its citizens forms a central element of the city’s strategy. Mayor Mireia González and her government team have been holding a series of meetings throughout March to present the plans and gather feedback. The city has scheduled further public consultations for the redevelopment of Carrer Monturiol on 26 March and for Carrer Torres i Bages on 10 April.
The Carrer Monturiol project carries an estimated cost of €2 million. Looking further ahead, the city plans to build social housing on the site of the current Civic Centre once it relocates. The comprehensive reform of Carrer Torres i Bages, budgeted at €2.4 million, is currently in the design phase. It will feature single-level platforms to improve pedestrian access.
This package of projects underscores a significant commitment from the Santa Coloma de Gramenet City Council to re-invest in its public realm. The works are part of a broader urban transformation plan that will see the city manage over €40 million in funds through 2030, supported by subsidies from the Generalitat de Catalunya’s ‘Ley de Barrios’ (Neighbourhood Law) and European funding. These efforts to improve local life complement community-focused events, such as the popular ‘Can We Run’ race for dogs and their owners, which help foster a strong neighbourhood identity.
