Santa Coloma police ratings are the highest among all large cities in the Barcelona metropolitan area. This finding comes from the latest Victimisation Survey (EVAMB).
The report, published by the Institut Metròpoli and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB), highlights Santa Coloma as a standout performer. Indeed, it achieved the top scores for both its Local Police and the regional Mossos d’Esquadra among municipalities with over 75,000 inhabitants.

High Satisfaction Scores for Santa Coloma Police
The survey results reveal impressive figures. Residents awarded the Santa Coloma Local Police a rating of 7.54. This score is significantly higher than the metropolitan average of 6.7. Meanwhile, the Mossos d’Esquadra received an even higher score of 7.76, well above the regional average of 7.1. Therefore, these positive Santa Coloma police ratings reflect the broader security strategy of the Mossos d’Esquadra across Catalonia.
Consequently, these figures place Santa Coloma ahead of other major metropolitan hubs. For instance, cities like Cornellà de Llobregat and Sant Cugat del Vallès also posted positive scores. However, others lagged behind. In contrast, Badalona recorded a 7.1 for the Mossos and 6.6 for local police. Similarly, Barcelona city scored 6.9 and 6.4 respectively.
Lower Victimisation Rates in Santa Coloma
Beyond satisfaction ratings, the data indicates a comparative drop in crime exposure. In 2024, 20.9% of surveyed Santa Coloma residents stated they had been a crime victim. This figure sits five percentage points below the wider metropolitan area average. For more context, consult the latest Barcelona crime statistics for a full metropolitan breakdown.
Mayor Mireia González welcomed the findings. She stated they reflect the “excellent joint work” performed daily by both police bodies. Such positive Santa Coloma police ratings are a notable achievement. This is particularly true when other neighbourhoods face long-standing resident complaints about crime and insecurity.
“[This] validates the security model that we have been experimenting with in the city for many years and that is based on prevention, proximity, and police coordination with the aim of guaranteeing a safer city,” González said.
Future Investment in Police Infrastructure
Looking ahead, the city administration aims to bolster these results with new infrastructure. Mayor González highlighted the ongoing construction of a new Local Police station. She described it as a “key facility”.
Once completed, the new station should improve officer working conditions. In addition, it will enhance public service delivery. Ultimately, this will further consolidate the city’s security strategy.
Survey Context and Methodology
The EVAMB survey is a comprehensive study. It involves approximately 7,800 respondents across the metropolitan area. Participants rate police services regardless of personal victimisation. Historical data shows a consistent trend. The Mossos d’Esquadra generally receive slightly higher ratings than local police forces. However, both consistently score above a pass mark across the region.
