Consequently, the station has regained a half-million listener threshold for the first time in two decades.

SER Catalunya Audience Growth Closes Gap On Rivals

The surge of 39,000 listeners since the last measurement period has significantly narrowed the gap with the regional leader, Catalunya Ràdio. The distance between the two stations is now just 120,000 listeners, down from 330,000 a year ago. Furthermore, SER has consolidated its position as the third most-listened-to station in Catalonia, practically doubling the audience of competitor COPE.

In total, the Prisa Media group’s stations now attract over 1.1 million daily listeners in the region. This means one in every four radio listeners in Catalonia tunes into one of their frequencies. The growth is particularly strong in Barcelona, where SER nearly ties with Catalunya Ràdio, reaching a historic high of over 400,000 listeners. Meanwhile, it has already overtaken the public broadcaster in the Tarragona area.

Individual programmes have also seen remarkable success. ‘El Balcó’, presented by Anna Puigboltas, has reached its best audience in over 30 years with 76,000 listeners. Similarly, the sports show ‘Què t’hi jugues!’ consistently surpasses 100,000 daily listeners. This local media strength reflects a broader cultural engagement in the city, as seen in other areas like language use and its economic impact.

National Leadership And Musical Dominance

Nationally, SER has extended its leadership across Spain, achieving its best audience figure in 12 years with 4.89 million daily listeners. It was the fastest-growing radio network in the latest survey wave. This national success story is mirrored by the performance of its musical stations within Catalonia.

LOS40 remains the leading music station in the region with 298,000 listeners, ahead of Flaixbac. Other stations in the group, including Cadena Dial and LOS40 Classic, also maintain strong listener bases. The overall picture is one of a media group performing strongly across both talk and music formats, capturing a significant share of the Catalan audio landscape. This vibrant media scene operates alongside other key city developments, such as ongoing major urban transformation projects.

The record-breaking year for SER Catalunya signals a dynamic and competitive radio market. Therefore, listeners in 2025 have demonstrated a clear and growing appetite for its particular blend of news, talk, and music programming.
