According to their official statement, the alarm system detected intrusions at 2:00 AM and 8:15 AM on Friday morning, prompting immediate police intervention.

Sitges Sea Club Security Concerns Escalate

The members have filed a formal complaint with the Mossos d’Esquadra, who responded to prevent the occupation from being completed. Furthermore, they highlight that despite following all legal requirements, they now face the additional burden of protecting the property from potential damage. The situation reflects broader concerns about property security in the region, particularly following recent high-profile security incidents in Barcelona.

Thursday had been scheduled for the key handover to the Coastal Demarcation of Catalonia, as ordered by a October 16th ruling from the High Court of Justice of Catalonia. However, government officials failed to appear for the scheduled transfer, leaving the keys undelivered and the property in limbo. Consequently, the members feel abandoned by the very authorities who demanded their departure.

“After years of work, dedication and affection for this emblematic space of Sitges, we find ourselves with the paradox that, having complied with everything demanded of us, we must continue fighting to protect the building from possible occupations and damage,” the club stated. This development comes amid wider discussions about municipal planning and property management across Catalonia.

As a gesture of civic responsibility, the members decided to keep the alarm system active to prevent further damage to the space they consider part of Sitges’s maritime and social heart for decades. Therefore, they are organising a security operation this weekend to monitor the premises and prevent additional intrusion attempts.

The incident underscores the challenges facing property owners during transitional periods between occupants. Meanwhile, the members await rescheduling of the key handover while maintaining their protective measures over what they describe as an iconic Sitges landmark.
