Winter weather has made a striking appearance in Catalonia this Saturday. Consequently, the snowfall associated with Storm Ingrid extended its reach to the Catalan capital. While heavy snow is common in the Pyrenees, it is a notable event when snow reaches Barcelona, dusting the upper slopes of the city. This event confirms Storm Ingrid’s forecast, which predicted a significant drop in temperatures.
Snow Reaches Barcelona’s Collserola Range
Residents in Barcelona witnessed snowfall on the Collserola mountain range. This rare sight drew many to Tibidabo to capture the scene. The precipitation marks the arrival of a significant weather front. Therefore, it has lowered temperatures and brought precipitation across the region.

Widespread Impact Across Catalonia
Storm Ingrid is currently delivering abundant and widespread snow across Catalonia. While the snow level generally sits above 600 metres, meteorological reports indicate it has plummeted to as low as 400 metres in certain western sectors. The weather system moved in from the west during the morning. Subsequently, it spread progressively across the territory. This latest weather system follows the recent severe coastal damage from Storm Harry, which battered the region just weeks ago.
The heaviest accumulations have been recorded in Central Catalonia, the Pre-Pyrenees, and the Pre-Coastal ranges. These include Montserrat, Montseny, and Sant Llorenç del Munt i L’Obac.
Official figures show significant accumulations in several municipalities:
- Villalonga de Ter: 15 centimetres
- Sant Guim de Freixenet: 10 centimetres
- Collsuspina: 8 centimetres
The snowfall has been particularly intense in several districts. For example, Segarra, Solsonès, Berguedà, Ripollès, Bages, Alta Anoia, Moianès, and La Selva have all been affected.
Civil Protection Alerts and Travel Advice
In response to the adverse conditions, the Civil Protection agency is maintaining the NEUCAT alert. Authorities advise citizens to exercise caution, particularly when travelling on roads in affected areas. The weather system continues to impact the region throughout the weekend. These new travel warnings compound the ongoing rail disruptions from storm damage in other parts of the region.
