Barcelona Airport was thrown into disarray yesterday after a fierce electrical storm forced the cancellation of around twenty flights. From the cockpit of a Vueling aircraft, the phenomenon produced striking images that have since gone viral on social media.

Meteorologist Francesc Mauri shared a video on X recorded by Vueling pilot Jordi Puigmartí, showing the aircraft’s approach to Barcelona as lightning repeatedly lit up the sky. The electrical activity was so intense it even caused interference on the plane’s radio, clearly audible in the footage.

The storm, one of the most powerful to hit the city in recent weeks, unsettled passengers and crews alike. Despite the dramatic scenes, flights that did manage to land did so without major incident.

The video, accompanied by Mauri’s remarks highlighting the ‘notable electrical activity’, has become a striking record of the storm that swept across Barcelona on Sunday evening.
