Police have seized a massive haul of stolen clothing near Barcelona. In fact, Mossos d’Esquadra officers discovered more than 1,200 items of stolen clothing during a routine patrol in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Consequently, they arrested two men found with the illicit merchandise in an illegally parked van.

The discovery occurred in the early hours of 12 January. Officers spotted a vehicle causing an obstruction. The suspect cargo, which included thousands of euros worth of stock, still bore original price tags. Subsequently, police traced the goods back to a burglary in Barcelona’s city centre just a week prior.

Routine patrol leads to attempted escape

The incident began during robbery prevention duties in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Officers noticed a van stopped on Carrer Goya. It blocked other drivers. When the occupants saw police, they tried to drive away immediately. However, the patrol car intercepted the vehicle quickly on Carrer Argentina.

Inventory of stolen clothing seized

After stopping the vehicle, officers conducted a full search. Inside, they discovered a significant quantity of merchandise. The haul consisted of eight large boxes and eleven bin bags. A count revealed over 1,200 individual pieces of clothing. Most items still had security or price tags attached. This indicated a direct theft from a retail floor.

Connection to Eixample burglary

Police investigations linked the recovered goods to a specific crime. The clothing was stolen on 5 January from a retail store in Barcelona’s Eixample district. This successful intervention aligns with the Mossos d’Esquadra’s warnings about evolving criminal threats in the region.

As reported by El Periódico, the arrest proximity suggests the goods were being moved for resale. Therefore, the successful identification allowed officers to confirm the illicit origin immediately. For more context on retail crime, see this report from the UK Home Office.

Suspects face court charges

The two van occupants, aged 35 and 36, were arrested at the scene. They face charges of receiving stolen goods (receptación). This case highlights ongoing police efforts to address repeat offending patterns in Catalonia.

Following their arrest, the men were placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities. They have since appeared before an investigating magistrate in Badalona. Meanwhile, the recovered stock remains in police custody pending return.
