Town councils must reinforce parade route security. They should modify routes if necessary to guarantee public safety. Delgado noted that if wind speeds are high in a specific area, the parade route should be diverted. Other recommended measures include removing temporary fencing near roadworks. Following similar weather events, emergency services have handled over 1,000 emergency calls related to wind incidents.
Storm Oriana Catalonia: Forecast Gusts Exceeding 100 km/h
The most intense winds will hit the Catalan Pyrenees, Tarragona, and Lleida. Gusts could exceed 100 km/h there. The Costa Brava will also see high winds. Officials noted that area is generally more resilient to such conditions.
While Saturday’s concern is primarily wind, some Carnival activities on Friday may face rain disruption. However, the precipitation should clear before the major parades on Saturday. Therefore, wind remains the primary weather hazard.
