Strong Winds in Catalonia Hit Barcelona Province Hardest
The vast majority of distress calls originated from the province of Barcelona. Meanwhile, the Barcelonès county recorded the highest activity, accounting for roughly a third of the total volume.
According to the official figures, the breakdown of calls by region includes:
- Barcelonès: 327 calls
- Vallès Occidental: 172 calls
- Vallès Oriental: 87 calls
Firefighters Respond to Hundreds of Alerts from Strong Winds
Parallel to the influx of calls to 112, the Bombers de la Generalitat attended to 529 distinct alerts by Wednesday evening. Therefore, the northern metropolitan area of Barcelona became the focal point for these operations, where crews managed 236 separate incidents.
Despite the high volume of activity, authorities have confirmed that none of the 529 alerts attended by firefighters involved serious injuries. In addition, the incidents were largely related to property damage and debris caused by the gusts.
The severity of the forecast has prompted further precautions; authorities in Catalonia have announced the suspension of classes and non-urgent healthcare activities for Thursday, which follows widespread wind warnings across eastern Spain as the strong winds are expected to persist.
