The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc will once again come to life on 24 September, coinciding with Barcelona’s La Mercè festivities, after an extensive programme of rehabilitation works.

The city council confirmed that the fountain, dormant for months due to maintenance, will reopen in time for the Piromusical, the traditional light, water and firework show marking the end of the celebrations on Sunday 28 September.
Upgrades have modernised the fountain’s control systems, replacing more than 4,600 white bulbs with 680 energy-efficient LED lights. The new system promises greater flexibility and resilience, while consuming far less power. Hydraulic components and valves have also been tested throughout the summer to ensure reliable operation.

From 2 October, shows will return to their usual schedule: Thursdays to Saturdays, 9pm–10pm in October, and 8pm–9pm through November and December. The restoration is part of Barcelona’s broader Pla Endreça, which allocates £5.6 million (€6.6 million) up to 2028 to modernise 78 ornamental fountains across the city.
The reopening marks the first major overhaul of Montjuïc’s iconic landmark since the 1990s, ensuring that one of Barcelona’s best-loved attractions continues to dazzle residents and visitors alike.
