One of Barcelona’s most emblematic watering holes is back. Mundial Bar, a historic venue that closed its doors in 2020, has been rescued and restored by Grup Confiteria, the hospitality team led by Lito Baldovinos alongside brothers Joan and Enric Rebordosa.

The group, already known for bringing traditional establishments back to life, discovered the bar was heading to auction and moved quickly to secure it — even prepared to pay more than double the starting price.

For Baldovinos, the mission was clear: to revive Mundial Bar without stripping it of its soul. ‘We try to teleport the customer back in time,’ he explained, stressing that the focus is on preserving its essence and character while making the space viable for today’s clientele.
Although they resist being labelled the “saviours” of Barcelona’s historic bars, their track record of rescuing much-loved institutions tells another story. Mundial Bar’s revival adds to a growing movement to protect the city’s cultural and gastronomic heritage from disappearing.
