Barcelona’s Tibidabo Amusement Park will open Masia Tibidabo on 5 June, adding a new Catalan restaurant to one of the city’s best-known landmarks. The project is led by Chef Rafa Zafra and is set inside the historic Masia del Tibidabo, at around 500 metres above sea level, with wide views over Barcelona.
The opening comes in Tibidabo’s 125th anniversary year, according to Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM). The aim is to give visitors a higher-end dining option inside the park, alongside the rides and other attractions.
Zafra, born in Seville in 1981, trained at elBulli with Ferran Adrià and has built a career in contemporary Spanish cooking. For Masia Tibidabo, he will focus on seasonal Catalan dishes designed for sharing, with product quality and time as the main ideas, according to the municipal press release.
“It is an honour to lead this project in the year of the 125th anniversary of the Tibidabo Amusement Park,” Zafra said. “From now on, anyone who goes up to the panoramic area can stay a little longer: sit, share, and celebrate at the table, with seasonal Catalan cuisine for young and old, with Barcelona at their feet.”
The Masia del Tibidabo building is a modernist structure first inaugurated in 1901 by an unknown architect. It has been rehabilitated for this project, with Varis Arquitectes and lead architect Dani Freixes handling the intervention, according to the Ajuntament. The restaurant will have space for around 300 diners across a central dining room, a viewpoint room with large windows, and an outdoor terrace.
Reservations will include a ride on the Cuca de Llum funicular, the panoramic transport up to the park. Parking will also be available for people arriving by car. For more Barcelona food and city news, see our Community and Sport pages.
