As one of Europe’s oldest amusement parks, Tibidabo has maintained a special connection with the city for over a century. Managed by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) on behalf of the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council), the park combines 35 historic and innovative attractions, offering a unique leisure experience for all ages.
A Picture-Perfect Viewpoint
A major highlight of the new season is a striking new installation at the Panoramic Area viewpoint. The park will officially inaugurate a giant sign spelling out ‘BARCELONA’ in nine large steel letters. Designed by the studio MIAS Arquitectes, led by Josep Miàs, the structure aims to enhance the breathtaking views.
According to reports from El Nacional, the installation features its own internal lighting and incorporates elements that double as benches, encouraging visitors to interact with the piece and capture the perfect photograph. This addition aims to create an iconic new photo opportunity against the backdrop of the Barcelona skyline.
Mascots Take Centre Stage
The anniversary year will also highlight the park’s beloved mascots: Ti, Bi, Da, and Bo. The season opens with the premiere of colours, la pel·lícula de les Mascotes, a new 4D film premiering exclusively at the Dididado cinema. This 12-minute family-friendly adventure follows the mascots on a mission to restore the colours of Barcelona.
Produced by Grup Transversal and Tigrelab, the film will be screened daily. Additionally, the mascots will feature more prominently throughout the park, with new live shows for the whole family scheduled for the entire season.
A Season of Celebrations and New Flavours
While the season kicks off this weekend, the main commemoration event for the 125th anniversary will take place on October 4th. The day will begin with a popular community walk from the Jardinets de Gràcia up to Plaça del Doctor Andreu. The Gràcia district often focuses on such community initiatives, including periodic weekend street closures for pedestrians. From the plaza, participants can take the Cuca de Llum funicular to the park for a day of special activities.
Other novelties for 2024 include new shows at the Marionetarium and the return of the popular summer Làser Show, a music and light spectacular that draws thousands of visitors. The park will also open a new Espai Lego, providing a creative space for children and parents to build and play together.
In June, the historic La Masia building will reopen, housing a new restaurant concept from renowned chef Rafa Zafra. As detailed in Tot Barcelona, the new space will accommodate 300 guests across three distinct areas, including an interior dining room, a terrace, and a viewpoint room with unparalleled city views.
This year’s investment in Tibidabo aligns with the city’s broader efforts to maintain its iconic public spaces, following Park Güell’s recent project to restore its original Gaudí-designed water system. Tibidabo will open this weekend and remain open on weekends, public holidays, and during school holidays. Visitors should consult the official Tibidabo website for detailed opening hours.
