TK Maxx, the British discount fashion and homeware giant, will open its first Spanish store in Barcelona next spring.

The retailer, part of the TJX Companies group, has chosen the Diagonal Mar shopping centre for its 2,100-square-metre flagship outlet, marking a significant expansion into the Spanish market.

This strategic move brings one of Europe’s most popular off-price chains to Catalan consumers.

The store will offer a constantly rotating selection of women’s, men’s, and children’s fashion, alongside shoes, bags, beauty products, and homeware items. Furthermore, all products will be sold at significant discounts, often up to 60% below the recommended retail price.

TK Maxx Megastore Aims to Reshape Barcelona Retail

The Barcelona location will be one of the largest units within the Diagonal Mar complex. Deborah Dolce, the group’s marketing director, expressed clear enthusiasm for the launch. “We are excited to be able to offer this concept in Spain as well,” she stated, confirming ambitions for further growth across the country.

Founded in the UK in 1994, TK Maxx now operates 740 stores across several European countries. Its arrival signals a new competitive dynamic for Barcelona’s retail sector, particularly in the value segment. The store’s model relies on purchasing surplus, end-of-line, and previous season stock from brands, which it then sells at reduced prices.

This expansion occurs amidst a shifting commercial landscape in the city. For instance, the recent closure of historic businesses like Barcelona’s Llanza hardware store after a 97-year run highlights the challenges for traditional retail. Conversely, new international brands continue to arrive, drawn by the city’s strong consumer base.

The opening is scheduled for spring 2026. It represents a major investment by TJX Companies and is expected to create numerous local jobs. Consequently, the launch will be closely watched by both consumers seeking bargains and industry analysts gauging the Spanish market’s appetite for the off-price model.

According to the original report in El Periódico, the company plans to continue its Spanish expansion following the Barcelona debut. Therefore, the Diagonal Mar megastore serves as a crucial test case for the brand’s future on the Iberian Peninsula.
