Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has received an International Mobility Prize for its AMBici electric bike service. The award ceremony in Madrid recognised the service as a successful model for integrating public transport.

The 6th International Mobility Awards honoured AMBici in the "Large Municipality" category. The jury praised the service for its ability to extend beyond municipal boundaries. It creates a truly metropolitan network for residents.

The AMBici electric bike service, owned by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) and managed by TMB, operates nearly 3,000 electric bikes. It also features over 230 stations across 15 municipalities. This network helps 40% of its journeys become intermunicipal trips.

AMBici's Environmental Impact

During 2025, this commitment to intermodality has helped avoid the emission of nearly 1,000 tonnes of CO₂. The awards, organised by Empresas por la Movilidad Sostenible, received support from Spain's Ministries of Transport and Ecological Transition. They gathered over 100 new initiatives.

The 6th edition of the awards highlighted technology and digitalisation. These are key drivers for reindustrialisation and decarbonisation in Spain. This shows a broader national focus on green transport solutions.

Recognised for Sustainable Transport

TMB shared recognition at this event with other notable awardees. These included the city of Oslo, the Future: Fast Forward group (Volkswagen and SEAT S.A.), and logistics operator Disfrimur. The event strengthens sustainable mobility's position as a strategic opportunity for economic and social growth. For Barcelona residents, AMBici offers a convenient, eco-friendly way to travel between different towns in the metropolitan area.

The continued success of AMBici reinforces Barcelona's commitment to cleaner, more connected urban transport. This model could influence future urban planning and public transport integration across other Spanish cities.
