Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has launched a new interactive tournament on TikTok, inviting users to vote for their favourite Barcelona metro line. The initiative, announced today, aims to crown the city’s most popular underground route through a series of weekly video confrontations.

The competition features eight metro lines, pitted against each other in a classic knockout format. Initial matchups include Line 1 (L1) versus Line 9 (L9), Line 2 (L2) against Line 5 (L5), Line 3 (L3) facing Line 4 (L4), and Line 10 (L10) battling Line 11 (L11). Four winners will advance to the semi-finals, leading to a grand final between the two most preferred lines.

Users of the short-video social network can cast their votes in two ways. They can either ‘heart’ a fixed comment bearing the name of their chosen line. Alternatively, they can submit their own comment within the video, indicating their preferred line from the duel. TMB aims to foster a sense of community among public transport users, particularly younger demographics. This encourages them to share their experiences and creative videos.

Engaging Barcelona’s Commuters

TMB’s corporate TikTok profile, @tmb_bcn, launched in February 2025. It has already amassed 10,000 followers. The first video in the “best metro line” series is now available. A new confrontation video will be released each week. This strategy highlights TMB’s commitment to creativity and interactivity. It stays at the forefront of a constantly evolving digital world.

TMB’s Digital Strategy

The public transport operator views its presence on TikTok as a vital tool for modern engagement. TMB hopes to strengthen connections with millions of residents and tourists. These individuals rely on Barcelona’s extensive metro network daily. This approach encourages user-generated content and direct interaction. It makes public transport more relatable.

The tournament will continue weekly until the ultimate favourite Barcelona metro line is determined by user votes. This ongoing series provides a dynamic platform for residents to engage with their city’s transport system in a novel way.
