Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, the city’s public transport operator, said it will reinforce metro services on Wednesday 2 July, Friday 4 July and Saturday 5 July to cope with disruption linked to the Tour de France Grand Départ events in Barcelona. For residents, commuters and visitors, the immediate consequence is clear: TMB is advising people to use the metro where possible because road traffic and bus routes will be heavily affected.
According to TMB, some metro lines and time slots will see up to 30% more trains, while more than 40 bus routes will be diverted across the three event days. The operator said service alerts will be updated through the TMB website and app, and readers can also see how we handle official public information on our Source Transparency page.
TMB recommends using the metro during event times because of the expected impact on traffic, with extra trains added on several lines and time bands.
2 July: Sagrada Família station changes during team presentation
The Tour de France team presentation is scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday 2 July, but TMB said crowds are expected from midday. The main impact will be at Sagrada Família station on Line 2, where trains will not stop from 1pm until the event ends because the exit opens directly onto the event stage area.
On Line 5, which also serves Sagrada Família, TMB said the largest reinforcement of the day will be applied, with up to nine additional trains in the afternoon. The Provença-Marina ticket hall at the Line 5 station will close from 1pm, and access to both Line 5 ticket halls may be restricted to regulate passenger flow.
TMB said all conventional metro lines will run more trains during the afternoon, with service increased by up to 34% compared with normal levels.
