Five fire crews rushed to Avinguda Diagonal this afternoon to tackle a burning tourist bus. The incident happened in the heart of Barcelona, near the iconic Casa de les Punxes. Firefighters worked to stop flames spreading to nearby vehicles and buildings.

The blaze was brought under control by 5:30pm. Nobody needed medical attention, according to City Council sources. However, traffic disruption lasted throughout the afternoon.
Carrer Rosselló was closed from Passeig de Gràcia. Meanwhile, Carrer Roger de Llúria shut from Provença. Diagonal itself closed between Carrer Bruc and Pau Claris. That’s right in the city centre during rush hour.
The City Tours vehicle caught fire around 4:30pm at number 422 Diagonal. Witnesses say the flames started at the rear. The cause remains unknown. Nevertheless, the bus was quickly engulfed and left completely burnt out.
Several Guarda Urbana vehicles attended to divert traffic and control access to nearby buildings. The Generalitat’s emergency services reported their 112 number received over 50 calls. The huge plume of smoke caused understandable alarm across the area.
City Council sources confirmed passengers evacuated rapidly. That quick response prevented any injuries. However, investigators will need to determine what caused the fire. These incidents with tourist buses aren’t common, making this particularly concerning.
The burnt-out shell remained on Diagonal whilst authorities investigated. Traffic slowly returned to normal during the evening. Anyone who witnessed the incident’s start might help investigators understand what sparked the blaze.
