Barcelona faces significant traffic disruptions and public transport changes on Saturday, 11 April, for the Salomon Run Barcelona 2026. The popular Montjuïc mountain race will close several roads and alter bus routes from 07:00 to 12:00. This eleventh edition of the event will impact access to key areas of the mountain.

Montjuïc Road Closures Announced

The Barcelona City Council (Ajuntament de Barcelona) announced a prohibition on vehicle circulation and parking. These restrictions apply to various roads adjacent to the race route. The measures will remain in effect for five hours, from early morning until midday. Residents and visitors planning to access the Montjuïc area should anticipate considerable delays. The affected roads are vital arteries for local movement.

Specific streets impacted by the Salomon Run Barcelona 2026 include Passeig de Santa Madrona. This closure affects the section between Carrer Guàrdia Urbana and Carrer Lleida, near the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia. Carrer Leonor Ferrer will also see parking restrictions in the area above Passeig de Santa Madrona. Additionally, Avinguda Montanyans will be closed on both the Besòs and Llobregat sides of the National Palace. This includes the Mirador del Palau Nacional and the car park of the Hípica restaurant.

Further closures extend to Avinguda Estadi, from Carrer Jocs del 92 to Passeig Olímpic. Parking areas around the iconic Torre Calatrava will also be restricted. Access roads to Plaça Olivera will be closed on both sides. The tiered parking zone between the Plaça Olivera access and Palau Sant Jordi is also affected. Finally, the unpaved tiered parking area between Passeig Olímpic and Carrer Pierre de Coubertin will be inaccessible.

Public Transport Diversions

Several bus lines will operate on conditioned routes due to the race. These include lines 13, 55, 125, and 150. Passengers should check for diversions before travelling to avoid inconvenience. The Barcelona City Council strongly recommends using the Espanya Metro station. This station offers the best public transport option to reach the race’s starting point at the Magic Fountain. This advice helps minimise disruption for attendees and commuters.

The Salomon Run Barcelona Event

This year marks the eleventh edition of the Salomon Run Barcelona. The event features multiple races designed for various fitness levels. These include classic 5K and 10K distances. A 5K Family race also allows adults and children to participate together. All races begin and conclude at the iconic Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. The unique course utilises Montjuïc’s characteristic inclines and staircases. It offers runners spectacular city views from approximately 200 metres above sea level. This elevation provides a challenging and scenic experience.

Race Schedule and Vertical Challenge

The day’s events commence with the 5K race starting at 09:00. The 5K Family race follows shortly after, scheduled for 09:10. The 10K race features three staggered starts to manage participant flow. These are set for 09:30, 09:40, and 09:50. A special vertical race is scheduled for 10:30. This challenging event involves running up the Montjuïc stairs. Organisers will select 32 women and 32 men by lottery from the total registered participants for this unique competition.

Traffic Normalisation Expected

Traffic normalisation will begin progressively from 11:30. This process will occur as the final participants clear each section of the race route. Authorities advise motorists to exercise patience and follow all signage. The aim is to restore normal traffic flow as quickly and safely as possible. Residents and visitors should plan their journeys accordingly for Saturday morning.
