Comsa and FCC will start work next Monday on urbanising the sea side of Gran Via, including modifying the Trambesòs route and doubling the tracks between Glòries and Rambla de Poblenou. The works will last 17 months and cost 23.6 million euros before VAT, split almost equally between the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) and municipal company BIMSA.

The contractors are the same companies that handled the tram extension between Glòries and Verdaguer. Preliminary works begin this Sunday, with visible effects on the ground from Monday onwards.
The main impact for public transport users will come in the first half of 2026, when tram circulation will be cut for several months. This will affect the T4 line, but especially the T5 and T6 for a longer period.
The works are planned to coincide with the summer holiday period to minimise mobility disruption. However, the interruption will be lengthy and continue once the new school term starts. The council will provide alternative transport to cover the affected sections.
The works will modify the route of the T5 and T6 lines on the Besòs side of Glòries. At this point, they’ll follow the same parallel route as the T4 along Diagonal, reaching Gran Via via Carrer Ciutat de Granada. This creates a zigzag that the Public Transport Promotion association views unfavourably, believing it will increase journey times.
But the council maintains that grouping the tram routes at Glòries will help organise the Besòs side of the square. They argue it will achieve better flow for buses, pedestrians, cycle lanes and cars coming up Carrer Badajoz, an area that gets congested during peak hours.
