Metro security guard assault charges have been filed against two young men following a violent incident at a Barcelona station.
The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested the individuals, aged 21 and 22, for allegedly attacking a private security guard with an extendable baton at Trinitat Nova metro station on 22 November.

Consequently, the victim required hospital treatment for a head injury.
Metro Security Guard Assault Details Revealed
The altercation began when the guard, on duty at Trinitat Nova, asked a group of people to leave the station for smoking inside. Initially, the group complied. However, they returned around 2:25 am on a train and began verbally abusing the security personnel. After being escorted out again, one member of the group sprayed pepper gas at two employees.
Moments later, one guard was struck on the back of the head with an extendable baton. The force of the blow necessitated his evacuation to a hospital for medical attention. Investigators from the Mossos d’Esquadra subsequently identified the two alleged perpetrators.
Furthermore, the police have requested, and a judge has authorised, precautionary measures against the detainees. These measures include a prohibition on approaching the victim and entering any metro facilities. The arrests were carried out on 11 December by agents from the Urban Transport Regional Area Investigation Unit (ARTU).
Suspects Have History Of Violent Offences
Significantly, both arrested individuals have previous criminal records for similar violent acts. The Mossos d’Esquadra had previously detained them in 2023 for attempted homicide following another assault involving an extendable baton. Additionally, one of the men has been reported on three separate occasions for possession of a prohibited weapon, specifically for using pepper gas.
This incident highlights ongoing security challenges within the city’s transport network. It follows other recent cases where safety protocols have been tested, such as the security failures documented at a Barcelona nightclub. Meanwhile, authorities continue to enforce regulations, including targeted police training against illegal transport operations.
