Valentine’s Day Barcelona has transformed into a commercial powerhouse for the city’s hospitality sector this year. This surge is driven by a lucrative calendar coincidence. Meanwhile, February 14 falls on a Saturday and coincides with Carnival celebrations. Consequently, hotels and restaurants across the city report a significant surge in reservations and revenue forecasts.
The ‘feast of lovers’, a tradition imported to Spain in the mid-20th century, has evolved into a crucial date for the local economy. Therefore, the calendar alignment has created a perfect storm for high spending. Industry data suggests a sharp rise in both occupancy and average spend compared to previous years.

Valentine’s Day Barcelona Reservations Up by 31%
Data from the reservation platform The Fork indicates that bookings are already tracking 31% higher than last year. In addition, the province of Barcelona currently accounts for 20% of all national reservations on the platform.
According to the data, 80% of requests for February 14 are for tables of two. Furthermore, the vast majority opt for dinner rather than lunch. A spokesperson for the platform noted that diners appear willing to stretch their budgets for the occasion. The average ticket price is increasing by approximately 20% above the norm.
Nightlife Receives a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’
The nightlife sector is also anticipating a robust weekend. Fecasarm, the nightlife employers’ association, projects a turnover increase of between 30% and 50% for restaurants and leisure venues. This optimism is bolstered by the coincidence of Valentine’s Day with Carnival.
David López, president of Fecasarm, described the weekend as a vital “balloon of oxygen” for a sector that has endured a sluggish start to the year due to adverse weather. To accommodate the festivities, the Generalitat has extended opening hours. Nightclubs will be permitted to operate until 06:45, fuelling expectations of full houses across the city.
The €100,000 Romantic Getaway
While standard romantic dinners remain the most popular choice, Barcelona’s luxury hotels have launched a series of extravagant packages designed to attract high-net-worth couples. Demands for high-end experiences have reportedly pushed prices up across the board.
The most exclusive offering comes from the Majestic Hotel & Spa on Passeig de Gràcia. Their “L’Amour Majestic” package, marketed as a unique experience for just one couple, starts at an eye-watering €100,000. The three-day, two-night itinerary includes a stay in the 467-square-metre Royal Penthouse, arrival via Rolls Royce, a red carpet entrance, and a dedicated butler team. The experience even includes the creation of a personalised fragrance and a bespoke musical composition for the couple.
Other luxury venues are offering slightly more accessible, though still premium, options:
- Torre Melina Gran Meliá: Offers a private helicopter flight from the hotel to Montserrat, followed by a gastronomic experience at their grill restaurant, ERRE & Urrechu.
- The One Barcelona GL: Proposes a wellness package running from 9 to 15 February, including a massage, spa access, and cocktails for €199 per couple.
- Le Méridien Barcelona: Features a package including accommodation, dinner, and a cava welcome for €295.
‘No San Valentín’ and Alternative Plans
Not every establishment is catering strictly to couples. Recognising that the date excludes single people, some groups are pivoting towards inclusive celebrations. The Confiteria group-which manages venues like Bonavista and Cafè del Centre-is running a “No San Valentín” campaign. Their special €50 menus are designed for sharing among friends, celebrating “any form of love” rather than traditional romance.
