The corridor linking Barcelona’s metro lines L4 and L5 at Verdaguer station will shut for around twelve months from this September as part of major works to improve accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.

According to Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the closure means that passengers changing lines will have to exit onto Carrer de Provença and re-enter the station from street level. The works form part of a city-wide programme to adapt all metro stations; currently, 155 of the 165 stops — about 95% — are already accessible. The investment is being financed by the Catalan government.

In addition, from 29 September the L4 entrance at Passeig de Gràcia will close for five weeks while an elevator is installed. Other accessibility projects are under way at Clot, Ciutadella and La Pau, with further upgrades planned at Plaça de Sants and Urquinaona in coming years.

Officials have also warned that Line 4 will face a temporary suspension between La Pau and Passeig de Gràcia from 6 to 8 December to allow additional works.
